STIR/SHAKEN Summit Spotlights International Impact and Upcoming Regulatory Requirements of Authenticating Voice Calls
July 19-23, 2021
What: Presented by the SIP Forum, the 2021 STIR/SHAKEN Virtual Summit is a reprise of the special mid-year webinar series focused on the STIR/SHAKEN Call Authentication Framework.
Who: iconectiv will be joined by industry leaders to discuss the progress that has been made, the solutions that have emerged and the common industry standards that have been defined and implemented to mitigate the impact of illegal spoofing and scamming.
Session 1: SHAKEN Goes Global – Opportunities and Challenges for Service Providers and Regulators Outside of the U.S.
The June 30 SHAKEN/ STIR implementation deadline has passed, and it is now time to prepare for the next phase which includes making the trusted calling ecosystem friendly to international callers, enterprise attestation and rich call data. The recently introduced FCC foreign provider prohibition measure to stop foreign scammers has the potential to block legitimate overseas calls beginning on September 28. The unintended consequences of the FCC order are resulting in U.S. and foreign service providers scrambling to understand the potential complications this may have for phone calls coming from legitimate sources. During this one-hour program, experts from iconectiv, ATIS, Microsoft and Twilio will discuss the recent policy updates and their impact, as well as provide strategies and lessons learned regarding cross-border calls.
- Moderator: Bevin Fletcher, Editor, FierceWireless

Session 2: Update on Registered Caller, a Centralized Industry Registry for Verifying Voice Calls
The diversity of how enterprises make phone calls complicates call authentication and warrants a common source of trusted information. The good news is that there has been extensive industry progress, solutions are available and common industry standards have been defined and implemented. This session will provide an update on Registered Caller™–an industry backed centralized registry that is facilitated by CTIA™, leveraging its experience representing the U.S. wireless communications industry, and iconectiv, a leading supplier of cloud-based B2C trusted communications platforms to communications providers. It will cover why a centralized registry is beneficial to the industry, service providers, enterprises, and consumers. It will also include a deep dive into Verizon’s proof-of-concept trial of the solution, including integration with Registered Caller.
